Sally Adams first visited friends in Opelousas several years ago and after being introduced to the city Adams eventually decided to make it her home.
Although she has lived in other parts of the U.S., that might seem more vibrant, there was an ambience, Adams says, that drew her to consider living in Opelousas.
Adams said during a brief interview that she likes Opelousas because of the friendliness of the residents she has met in addition to easy access to all the places she likes to visit.
“There is a great walkability aspect (in Opelousas) that I especially like. I have walked all over the city now and it’s been enjoyable doing that. I have had a chance to see the city firsthand during my walks and it’s really a nice place, very friendly. It has been a place where I have become comfortable,” Adams notes.
After the initial visit to Opelousas, Adams said she decided to leave Maryland where she had lived for years and move to Opelousas, where she has felt content.
In addition to her time as a Maryland resident, Adams says she has lived in several states, including California and Texas.
Adams said she was somewhat familiar to the San Francisco street scene during the late 1960’s, when the city became an iconic symbol of the California hippie movement. She has also lived in Austin, Texas.
One of her favorite San Francisco musical acts Adams says, was Janice Joplin.
Adams said she still has work to do after starting a restoration on her home located in one of the city’s oldest residential neighborhoods.
“I want to do some writing at this point. I think the places I have been and experiences I have had will make an interesting book, an autobiography that I am anxious to begin,” Adams said.
