Landry Street Sidewalk Project Starts In June

Notice from City of Opelousas Public Works Director:
Construction for the downtown Landry Street sidewalk improvement project, which includes both sides of Landry Street between Court and Market Streets, is scheduled to begin the first week of June.  The first phase of the project will involve sidewalks on the south side of Landry Street. Construction is expected to take approximately 60 days for this phase. The work includes the removal of existing broken concrete, addition of new concrete and resurfacing work and installation of steps and rails.  Merchants located on the south side of Landry Street between Court and Market Streets will experience limited access to storefronts. The contractor will be responsible for maintaining temporary access storefronts.

The second phase of the project will include work on the sidewalks on the north side of Landry Street between Court and Market Streets and is also expected to last 60 days. The construction work is not expected to impact street parking along Landry Streets between Court and Market Streets.

The work is being done as part of a Transportation Alternatives Grant awarded to the City of Opelousas. The grant is administered by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development.  Additional funding support for the project was provided by Opelousas Downtown Development District. Through a public bid process, the City of Opelousas awarded the project to Briggs Brothers Construction.

We apologize to businesses, residents and visitors for any inconveniences while construction is underway.  We hope to work together with businesses for the long-term improvement of our downtown. Thank you for your patience and cooperation during this project.
