Sometimes it’s easier to trade disappointment for the prospect of opportunity.
That’s perhaps the message the Louisiana football coaching staff is selling this week as the Cajuns begin a run through their Sun Belt Conference schedule.

St. Landry Parish Football – WEEK 5 SCORES. WEEK 6 GAMES

That was evident again Friday night as Reese scored three rushing touchdowns and gained 146 yards while Northwest opened District 4-3A with a 56-12 win over Port Barre.
St. Edmund running back Kevon Johnson kept his position as a state rushing leader on Thursday night, while the Blue Jays introduced an effective passing attack ahead of their start of district contests.

For those who left Cajun Field during the mid-third quarter Saturday night, there was a surprise awaiting if they searched later for a final score of the game that was left behind.
Port Barre High displayed the type of offense against Mamou on Friday that head coach Brent Angelle had imagined at the start of the season.
WEEK 4 SCOREBOARD
The game plan was for Eunice High to throw the football, but the weather, running back Brian Allen and placekicker Omar Rodriguez changed that decision for the Bobcats Friday night.
BOBBY ARDOINEditor/Consulting Writer The good news this week for St. Landry Parish football programs is no team will finish 2023 without a victory. After Week 3, all parish teams have acquired at least one win. Opelousas, Eunice, Northwest and St. Edmund are 2-1. Last week the nine parish teams finished with an overall 5-4 record. Read More…

You would think that by now someone overseeing the citywide facility might take notice.Or perhaps those responsible wear sunglasses when attending night games.

There was little doubt on Friday night that the revised Opelousas Catholic offensive concept is moving forward.
After opening its Sun Belt Conference schedule last week on the road at Old Dominion, the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Football team returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Birmingham, Ala., to face American Athletic Conference member UAB in a non-conference matchup at Protective Stadium.Â
It was an undoubtedly bizarre if not somewhat entertaining Week 2 for St. Landry Parish high school football.
Week 2 St. Landry Football Scoreboard
A simple position switch on the offensive line helped provide a difference for Northwest High Thursday night.
That strong late-game performance Westminster Christian was seeking appeared during the fourth quarter Friday night.
In response to weather conditions that have prompted concerns for the safety of our student-athletes, coaches, and spectators, the football game between Beau Chene High School and Port Barre High School, originally scheduled for Thursday, September 7, 2023, has been rescheduled.
Unless you were Eunice or Port Barre, the first week of regular season St. Landry Parish high school football probably brought the need for local coaches to consider reshuffling aspects of their football teams.
Even before the opening kickoff, LSU head football coach Brian Kelly was aware of the potential difficulties that Keon Coleman could create for his defense.
There is no reason for Brent Angelle to be nervous anymore. Angelle successfully completed his first game as the Port Barre head football coach as the Red Devils opened the 2023 season with a 14-12 Friday night victory over Livonia.
The Louisiana defense demonstrated an overall early season readiness, while it’s obvious the Ragin’ Cajuns offensive pass protection still has work to do.

KEEPING SCORE by Bobby Ardoin
It’s hard to forget those acrobatic catches Keon Coleman made as an Opelousas Catholic wide receiver or his flamboyant windmill dunks that often lifted Vikings’ basketball fans from their seats.
Crowd security was tight and attendance was near capacity as six public school football teams unveiled their programs which appeared in various stages of development during the St. Landry Parish Jamboree on Friday night.
There’s always tomorrow, but for the Westminster Christian Academy football team, that also means there is not much time to improve.
What’s New – For the first time since the 1990’s Opelousas High is considered to be the team to beat for a district championship. The Tigers are now faced with supporting what district coaches are saying about the program as Jimmy Zachery, Jr. begins his fourth season with an abundance of returning starters.
What’s New – This season appears to be more of a continuation for a building process that started in 2022. St. Edmund (5-6 last season) featured a lot of young players last season and now the Blue Jays return 18 of 22 starters. Coach James Shiver is now the most experienced head coach in District 5-1A which features four new head coaches.
What’s New – Port Barre has a new head football coach – Brent Angelle – who’s not exactly unfamiliar with the program. Angelle has handled the offense as a coordinator the past couple of years and he’s also hired several new assistants that he thinks have injected enthusiasm into the program.
What’s New: The Hurricanes have Julian Rideau as the program head football coach and a group of new assistants. Rideau, who perhaps has the most interesting resume of any parish coach (anthropology and sociology college majors, convenience store manager) hopes to continue the progress made at North Central last year (3-7 record).
The Vikings won’t display much resemblance to the teams of the last half decade. OCS football has an entirely new coaching staff and a new offensive scheme that presumably features flexibility for playmakers and skill position players.
St. Landry Landry Parish Football Jamboree is scheduled for Friday, August 25, 2023 at Donald Gardner Stadium. Please see the Jamboree schedule included with this announcement.
Beau Chene High School Football Outlook: There’s the appearance of urgency among the players and coaches along with a renewed purpose that the program is better than it performed last year.
