Southwest Louisiana Primary Healthcare Center celebrated with a Sneaker Ball for their Annual Gala on Saturday Night at the Civic Center in Opelousas.
The event held at the Opelousas Civic Center on Saturday evening served as al fundraiser for the Southwest Primary Health Care Center as their mission focuses on giving back to the community. Established in 1993, the healthcare center has served Southwest Louisiana creating, developing, and promoting supportive services to all who are medically under-served or needy.
The program kicked off as guests entered the Civic Center beautifully decorated in the spirit of Mardi Gras. As per the theme of the evening many guests walked in donning dressy attire, shimmering sequined gowns, and of course, sneakers! There was no need for kicking off these shoes for the dance floor.
Family Court Judge and Vice President on the Board of Directors for SWLA Primary Healthcare, Ms. Josie G. Frank commenced the program with an introduction of the Board of Directors and those in attendance. She addressed those in attendance and expressed her gratitude to those who made the Gala possible in helping with the mission of SWLPHC to serve the community and instilling the vision of the center to ensure that all people may experience all the rights, privileges, and responsibilities as members of the community.
Ms. Frank quoted the late Maya Angelou saying “People will forget what you said. People will forget what you did. But people will never forget how you made them feel” with a call to action that we all can play a part in how we make others feel by doing what is right.
Walking the Red Carpet
The Board Members of SWLA Primary Healthcare Center made their way down the red carpet as they were introduced.
Guests also had their opportunity to take a walk down the red carpet for the Sneaker Contest. Contestants who registered upon entry were given a number and made their walk down the carpet showing off their footwear for the evening (and dance moves) as judges awaited at the end to make their decision.
It was a fun evening of enlightenment, great food service provided by Chef Donavon Lewis, and enjoyment.
