Amede Passed Here on His Way Home

The St. Landry Parish Tourist and Information Center where a statue of Amede Ardoin stands as a permanent memorial to the Louisiana Creole musician. Known for his high singing voice and expertise on the Cajun accordion, he is credited by music scholars with laying the groundwork for Creole music. Born near Basile, La. in 1898, he died in 1942.
