Due to the recent discovery of illicitly manufactured Fentanyl (IMF) in St. Landry Parish, Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz wants to raise public awareness of the effects of Illicitly Manufactured Fentanyl on users. The presence of this drug in St. Landry Parish should raise much concern to all law-enforcement officers within St. Landry Parish.

Illicitly Manufactured Fentanyl (IMF), binds to the body’s opioid brain receptors that control pain and emotions. Its effects on users include extreme happiness, drowsiness, nausea, confusion, respiratory depression and arrest, unconsciousness, coma and death.

Some overdose effects include, stupor (falling asleep) and unconsciousness, changes in pupil size, cold and clammy skin, blue discoloration of the skin, slow and weak breathing, and choking/gurgling sounds.

Drug dealers use it to improve their bottom line. Evidence suggests that Fentanyl is being pressed into pills that resemble Oxycontin, Xanax, hydrocodone, as well as being cut into heroin and other street drugs.

Naloxone (Narcan) will work in case of overdose, but extra doses may be needed in extreme cases.

Some individuals claim they can tell the difference between a product that has been laced with Fentanyl and that which hasn’t. Overdose statistics indicate otherwise. Even if someone could tell a product had been laced with Fentanyl, IT MAY NOT PREVENT THEIR USE OF IT!
