Ash Wednesday Services

By March 2, 2022No Comments
It’s Ash Wednesday, the start of the Lenten season. For those who celebrate, it’s a time for 40 days of fasting, repenting and reflecting on mortality in the weeks leading to Easter Sunday. After the Ash Wednesday service church attendees are invited to receive ashes on their forehead, often in the shape of a cross pattern. On Ash Wednesday Christians, especially Catholics, receive Holy Ashes on their forehead.
The ash is placed there by a priest or minister as a symbol acknowledging sin. This is also a time Catholics fast from eating meat on Ash Wedesday and on Fridays during Lent. The above picture was taken at Holy Ghost Catholic Church during the noon Ash Wednesday service.
