The City of Opelousas, according to Mayor Julius Alsandor, has lifted a boil water advisory that went into effect Jan. 17.

Alsandor made the removal of the advisory official on Friday with a message on his Facebook page.

The advisory became effective over a week ago after the city experienced low water pressure during a series of hard freezes which dropped temperatures into the low 20’s, Alsandor said.

Alsandor warned during a message to city water customers last week that Opelousas would probably experience low water pressure as long as residents continued to drip water from their facets on nights where there were low temperatures.

On his Facebook page, Alsandor said the boil advisory was necessary as city officials attempted to nudge water pressure upward to achieve acceptable levels.
