St. Landry Parish school officials honored the top elementary, middle and high school students from the District Wednesday night, while selecting three students for special recognition during a presentation ceremony at Our Savior’s Church.
Two of District Students of the Year – fifth grader Raelyn Guillory and eighth grader Hannah Beth Standridge are from Leonville Elementary.
The 12-grade Student of the Year – Alayna Charles – attends Northwest High.
One student from each of the District’s fourth, fifth, eighth and 12 grade schools were recognized and presented with certificates of achieve.
Nicholas Vallair, a 2021 grade of Northwest High and a former parish wide 12th grade Student of The Year, was guest speaker for the event which accommodated several hundred.
During his presentation Vallair reminded students to follow their consciences and use that as their weapon.
“The fun is always going to be there. If you focus on the fun, you going to make it too easy to become distracted. There is power in your thoughts and you need to use that to your advantage. You can conquer whatever you put your mind to,” Vallair told the audience.
