The Hope for Opelousas community outreach organization recently received a sustaining $10,000 donation from Heritage and Senior Village, issue through their Louisiana Charities Foundation.
.Loren Carriere, HFO executive director, said in a press release issued to St. Landry Now that the donation from the Foundation will be used to help continue the organization’s work which began in 2008.
The HFO’s tutoring, mentoring and enrichment programs include beginning school-age children and commits to helping the city’s families and children become more empowered.
In 2018 HFO added first through eighth-grade students to the after-school mentoring and tutoring activities.
According to a message on the HFO website, the organization with an eight-member board of directors, was established to help address poverty, hopelessness, by operating in an integral way that includes the families with what Carriere describes as “long term support.”
Operating with the assistance of donations, HFO located primarily on Madison Street neighborhood, has also helped rehabilitate a number of residences in The Hill area of Opelousas. Most of the residences which have undergone transitions by HFO are identified with bring colored exteriors.
The home repairs Carriere said in a statement on the organization’s website are part of the community outreach effort.
Students and families who participate in the HFO program are eligible to participate in activities what include various adventures, van rides and football games, Carriere wrote.
“When we commit to a family, we know that long term support is going to have the best solutions,” Carriere wrote in a statement posted on the HFO website.
