A group of St. Landry Parish and community leaders gathered together on February 17th at the St. Landry Chamber of Commerce in Opelousas to kick off the second in a series of nine Leadership St. Landry classes by attending a day dedicated to learning more about the infrastructure of the parish. Infrastructure day was made possible by the sponsorship of Slemco.
A total of 14 participants were accepted into the program and were present for the second of nine Program Days. The class had the opportunity to spend the day listening to several leaders in the community speak about different aspects of the infrastructure of the parish. Speakers from the day included Melanie Lebouef, Director of City of Opelousas Tourism, Algy Semien from DOTD, Eric Bellard from Slemco, Drew Tessier Sr. Director of Public Affairs for Union Pacific, Luke Soileau, Owner of Luke Deshotels Construction, and Matthew Rabalais, Chef of Administration from St. Landry Fire District #3.
“The St. Landry Chamber is dedicated to developing well-rounded leaders in the community through insight and access to the major industries affecting economic development and commerce,” said Laina Brickley, President & CEO of St. Landry Chamber of Commerce.
Throughout the program and the months to follow, the 14 participants of the Leadership St. Landry will gain the necessary experience with panels, tours, keynotes, leadership development, and team-building activities that will focus on the fields of healthcare, education, state government, local government, workforce development, media and tourism, infrastructure, and economic development in St. Landry Parish. “This program is only made possible by our sponsors who understand the value of investing in the future leaders of St. Landry Parish.”, said Brickley. “We are so fortunate to have CLECO, Slemco, Opelousas General Health System, City of Opelousas, LSUE, St. Landry Parish Tourist Commission, Forte & Tablada, Page50 Media, and Dupre-Carrier-Godchaux supporting the program this year”
Brickley noted that the goal of Leadership St. Landry is to develop well-rounded leaders of today and tomorrow by identifying community assets and partners directly related to economic prosperity and to build relationships that directly benefit participants and the parish of St. Landry.
