St. Landry Parish District Attorney Chad Pitre announced a successful jury trial to start off 2023.
Yesterday a jury took less than one hour to unanimously convict Antoine Denton, 45, guilty of second-degree murder. Denton of Opelousas was convicted of killing Jonas Hubbard, in addition to being found guilty of Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Denton, now a fourth felony offender, will be sentenced to a mandatory life in prison, without benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence.
Denton, murdered Jonas Hubbard at the Townhouse Motel in Opelousas when he shot an unarmed Hubbard in the chest on October 24, 2021. Denton will be sentenced on March 2, 2023 before District Judge Gregory Doucet.
Prosecuting this case were Assistant District Attorneys Kylie Leblanc and Laura Signorelli. Leblanc stated, “Law enforcement conducted a thorough investigation and the jury was very attentive and did exactly what they were called upon to do. “
