On a cool crisp morning downtown Opelousas was abuzz with people that came out to witness the annual Opelousas Mardi Gras Parade. The sound of blaring police sirens announced the beginning of the Opelousas Imperial Mardi Gras Parade led by led by the displaying of the colors by a military group. Opelouisas Police Chief Graig LeBlanc walked the parade route while Mayor Julius Alsandor threw Mardi Gras beads to the crowd from his vehicle. Grand Marshal Gregg Martinez waved to the crowds as a bevy of Mardi Gras themed floats followed close by. A caravan of three wheeled motorized vehicles was a major draw along with several dance groups keeping in step with the sounds of the Mardi Gras. Closing out this year’s parade was Opelousas Imperial Mardi Gras royalty King Imperial Joseph “Joe” Godchaulx and Queen Lily V Aqluantis Zachary.
