Port Barre Police have issued an arrest warrant for suspect of attempted murder after running his vehicle into two police officers.

According to Port Barre Police, an officer attempted to a stop a vehicle, driven by Shawn Oakley, 19, after failing to stop at a stop sign. Oakley refused to stop and a pursuit was initiated. Oakley reached speeds greater than 70mph in 25mph zones, according to Port Barre Police, while passing other motorists and running through intersections on residential neighborhood roads.

The pursuit continued through the Teche Oak Subdivision located behind Love’s Truck Stop, where another police unit blocked the roadway in an attempt to stop the vehicle.

Authorities reported Oakley’s vehicle accelerated speed, deliberately ramming into the side of the police unit which was occupied by two officers. Both vehicles were totaled and officers sustained injuries from the collision.
Oakley immediately fled the vehicle and is currently at large.

In a news interview with Port Barre Chief of Police, Deon Boudreaux stated Oakley does have a criminal history of violent acts and was arrested previously on a second-degree murder charge.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Shawn Jekian Oakley Jr, on charges for Stop Sign Violation, Aggravated Flight, Hit and Run Driving and 2 counts of Attempted Second Degree Murder.

Authorities are asking to contact Port Barre Police Department (337) 585-6212 if you see this fugitive or know of his whereabouts.
