EUNICE, LA – Monday, February 21, 2022 at 10:18 AM Eunice Police responded to a call about a car driving onto the campus of St. Edmund Elementary School and across a walkway.
According to the investigating officers, the car left N. Third Street, entered the parking lot between the elementary school and the St. Anthony’s Rectory, crossed a walkway between the school and cafeteria and came to a rest just as it entered the playground. No students were in the area yet. It was, however, nearing the time that students would have converged on that location.
The driver, Skyla P. Briley, Age 29, Old School Rd., Arnaudville, LA was arrested for 1st Offense Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated and Careless Operation. Her BAC was 0.295g%. This was her third first offense in 6 weeks. She was arrested January 8, 2022 by State Police in St. Landry Parish and again February 12, 2022 in Leonville on DUI charges.
She has been charged with a first offense because she has no prior convictions. As these cases make their way through the court system and she is convicted of either of the DUI cases, charges in the others will be modified. Once convicted of two offenses, the remaining charge will become a third offense, which is a felony.
