According to Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz, “On December 20, 2021, St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the 900 block of Highway 31 in the Arnaudville area in regards to a stabbing.”

Upon further investigation, it was determined that the victim was at the home of James Collins were sitting outside on the porch and began arguing about a cigarette lighter. When the victim denied having a lighter, James Collins went inside the house and returned with a kitchen knife. The argument regarding the lighter continued and James Collins stabbed the victim in the cheek during the verbal altercation. The victim then walked away from the scene.

When questioned by deputies, James Collins stated that the victim would take food from him and tease him regarding his weight.

When a witness was questioned by deputies, he stated that James Collins had a knife in his hand and struck the victim in the face.

On December 20, 2021, James Edward Collins was transported to the St. Landry Parish Jail and was charged with attempted second degree murder.
