An early morning stabbing on a St. Landry Parish school bus and a Port Barre Police Department homicide investigation which began Friday night are occupying the efforts of local authorities.

In addition, the Sheriff’s Department also issued on Monday a lengthy report in connection with arrests made parish wide during the past weekend.

Bus Stabbing Incident

According to a School District press release issued Monday morning, a stabbing incident that injured one student occurred in the Grand Coteau area, as the students were being transported by bus to the alternative school located in Opelousas.

The bus driver later pulled into an Opelousas-area truck stop when one of the students involved in the argument allegedly pulled a knife and subsequently stabbed the other student before police arrived at the scene.

The student injured in the stabbing was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The student who allegedly did the stabbing has been placed in custody, the press release said.

Port Barre Homicide

The Port Barre police department is investing a Friday night homicide that occurred at a residence in the 400 block of Pacific Street and killed 33-year-old Percy Jones.

Information provided by police indicate that Jones died of a single gunshot wound as a result of a domestic incident involving at least one family member.

Police stated in a press release that they have located at least one of the murder weapons that they suspect was used in the incident.
