From Chief Martin McLendon, Opelousas Police Department
Officers are on the scene of a shooting that happened at Fern @ Hall Streets. It appears that two people was fighting over money and one of them produced a handgun. A struggle between the two continued and one was stuck in the leg with a single gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a Lafayette hospital to be treated. The other person was taken into custody by OPD Officers shortly after the shooting. James Allen, 49 years old is being detained as the investigation continues.
