Culinary Culinary & Culture Events & Activities History

Today September 29th Is National Coffee Day 2022

In our area of Louisiana, coffee is so much a part of our culinary culture. But did you know when coffee became popular as a drink in America?

History tell us that by the 1600s, coffee became popular in England, and by the middle of that century, there were over 300 coffee houses in London – often frequented by famous artists, writers, and intellects.

Coffee was finally brought to the New World by the British in the mid-17th century. Coffee houses were popular, but it wasn’t until the Boston Tea Party in 1773 that America’s coffee culture was changed forever: the revolt against King George III generated a mass switch from tea to coffee amongst the colonists. And as the saying goes — the rest is history.

Enjoy your coffee today!
