Port Allen– Join the West Baton Rouge Museum on Friday, September 15, 2023 from 6 -8 PM for Historical Happy Hour. This month’s Happy Hour will feature music by twice Grammy-Nominated Accordionist and Zydeco artist Corey Ledet and dance instruction by Brandon Broussard of Louisiana Dance Roots. This Zydeco rhythm-filled event promises to offer melodies to refresh your spirit along with dance instructors who will be on hand to help you find the right moves!

Corey Ledet is a Professor of Music at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.  Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Corey spent his summer months with family in Parks, Louisiana immersed in the Creole culture that shaped his world. He learned everything he could to incorporate traditional Creole culture in all areas of his life. As a homage to reclaim his father’s language, Corey has recently released his first zydeco album Medikamen completely in Kouri Vini (LA Creole). Corey has a versatile sound and enjoys giving his listeners a true dance/music experience in the ways of old-time house parties.

Brandon Broussard, owner of Louisiana Dance Roots, learned about his Acadian heritage as a young child. Over the past 20 years, he has provided private and group lessons and worked on documentaries and commercials. Brandon says, “Don’t just listen to the music, join us and let the music resonate through your mind, body, and soul. C’est un bon mélange pour la vie!”

At the West Baton Rouge Museum, the drinks are on you, and the history is on us! This event is FREE, open to the public, and will be held on the side porch of the Juke Joint under the shade of the oak trees. We encourage you to bring lounge chairs and refreshments. The museum will be open for guests to view the current exhibits. The West Baton Rouge Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10AM to 4:30PM and Sunday 2 to 5PM.  For more information, call (225)-336-2422 and visit www.westbatonrougemuseum.org or  www.facebook.com/TheWBRM.
