On May 11, 1972, Dr. Richard Hargroder, Chairman of the Acadiana Council for Tourism (ACT), announced at a council meeting the Acadiana Tourist Center in Opelousas had just received 24,000 post cards, with four different Opelousas scenes. The center sold the post cards to local and area businesses, and to the general public.
One of the post cards pictured the Governor’s Mansion, located on the corner of Liberty and Grolee streets in Opelousas. The home featured marble mantels, silver hardware and classic woodwork. At that time the home was owned by the George Voitier family.
While undergoing restoration, the Governor’s Mansion was lost to fire in July of 2016. (Postcard Photograph by Charles Lanusse.)
