An early photo of downtown Opelousas shows the courthouse square on Landry Street. For over two centuries the courthouse square was the gathering place for most of the town’s activities. This 19th century photograph shows a group of citizens coming together on the square, facing Landry Street, for a special Opelousas event. (Carola Lillie Hartley collection)
