See the following message from the St. Landry Parish Government:

Hello!
We’re thrilled to invite you to a truly historic event! St. Landry Parish Government is delighted to announce the unveiling of the beautifully restored St. Landry Courthouse and new bell display on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at 10:00 AM, right at the Courthouse Square (118 South Court Street, Opelousas, LA).

In reference to our motto of “honoring our history while preserving our future,” Parish President Jessie Bellard emphasized the importance of maintaining our public buildings, safeguarding their historic significance for generations to come.

The renovations include sealing exterior walls, new windows, awnings, Assessor’s office upgrades, a handicap ramp, a third-floor courtroom, fire escape, entry doors, flag displays, and stunning exterior lighting. We’re also proud to unveil the new 1886 Courthouse bell, now proudly displayed on the courthouse square.

We cordially invite you to join us for this momentous occasion, where history springs to life. Our guest speakers Dustin Miller, Carola Hartley, and more will enlighten us about the history of the courthouse and how we were able to fund this initiative. You will get the opportunity to explore the transformed courthouse and enjoy refreshments. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to be part of history in the making.
