It was a beautiful day at the ball park on Saturday, September 16 for the Annual Softball Tournament with St. Landry Abilities. Teams and members of the community came out to Veterans Memorial Park in Port Barre to catch the games as players stepped up to the plate to benefit a great cause for local families.
There were several teams on Saturday consisting of volunteers from St. Landry Abilities and surrounding organization members who came out to enjoy a game of ball in support of the non-profit organization.
This is the first year the organization introduced the Dream Team to the tournament which was made up of members of the organization of all abilities and ages!
This is the 9th year St. Landry Abilities hosts the tournament which funds all of the group’s activities throughout the year, including movies, trip to the beach, waterpark, Moms Night Out, Men & Boys Camping, Christmas Party and other activities.
St. Landry Abilities was founded to share information, bring awareness of many issues, and empower people to identify the Abilities of people in St. Landry Parish and beyond.
“Abilites” was chosen for the name of the group to bring attention to the abilities in all of us – community members, families, business people, educators, policymakers/elected officials, church members, etc.
“We have the ‘Ability’ to make a difference in our community when we all see and appreciate the value of diversity of all people.”
It takes a community to make events such as these successful. There is a lot of prep work that goes in before the tournament can take place. Thanks to the support from local sponsors and help from volunteers the organization has done it again and will continue to serve their community.
The money raised from the tournament is used to provide informational workshops, host family friendly events and help support our families here in St Landry Parish.
