I had the pleasure of sampling a grilled chicken salad at Wednesday’s Opelousas Kiwanis Club weekly meeting. I arrived at the meeting just minutes before James Levier arrived with the plate lunches with all the trimmings.

James is one half of Jimmy’s Party Service a catering business started about ten years ago with his brother, Jimmy. As James describes the business as more than just catering. “We offer bartending or whatever the customer desires,” James said. “Were here for the party.” I just met James but have been knowing his brother Jimmy for years and like Jimmy, James has that outgoing personality with both of the brothers making sure to satisfy their customers every needs. Plus both are excellent chefs.

James explained that it was his mother that taught him and his brother the art of cooking. James stated that her homemade pies that she sold door to door were the best and that’s what got him interested in the culinary field.

James is a graduate of Opelousas High School and while we were talking he mentioned that one of his teachers was St. Landry Now’s own Bobby Ardoin. “Mr. Ardoin was my teacher,” he said warmly. Bobby walked in just as we finished the interview which gave James a chance to reminisce about his time at OHS.
