UPDATE: Shooting on Mia Street

UPDATE:

As earlier reported Opelousas Police are investigating an overnight shooting that occurred just before 1:00 AM in the 700blk of Mia St. (5) Victims received injuries as a result of the shooting. At this time (2) of those victims have died as a result of their injuries. Of the (2) deceased victims one was a 46 year old adult male and the other a 4 year old female. The adult male died at the scene of the incident and the 4 year old female succumb to her injuries after being transported to a local hospital. The (3) remaining victims were all minors. A 17 month old female victim is currently hospitalized with serious injuries. A 7 year old male victim is hospitalized, but is in stable condition. A 16 year old victim received a very minor injury and is not currently receiving any inpatient care. The investigation has determined so far that the shooting occurred as a result of  an earlier physical altercation between (2) adult females. At some point later (2) yet to be positively identified males became involved in the dispute which resulted in multiple rounds being fired in an apartment unit were the victims were located. Detectives are currently pursing active leads and more information will be forthcoming. Identities of the victims will be released once next of kin notification has been verified and family members have had time to process this tragic situation.

The Opelousas Police Department received a call approximately 12:56 AM in reference to several people with gunshot wounds in the 700 block of Mia Street. Officers found one male subject  dead inside the residence and 3 children was transported to the hospital. No suspect information is known at this time.  This is an active scene and as more details become available we will update this story.
