The Louisiana State Nurses Association District 4 recently celebrated Acasiana’s top 25 nurses.  These nurses were nominated by their peers and selected after a rigorous blind review.  These honorees were chosen for displaying exemplary practice in their field.  Among the 25 selected were Carla Lavernge, BSN, RN and Mary Soileau, RN, both employed by OGHS for the past 5 years. Carla works in our South Campus Rehabilitation Unit as a charge nurse. Carla offered the following advice for anyone considering the profession of nursing. Nursing is challenging but rewarding. Embrace the joy of caring for others and making a difference in their lives. Always be an advocate for patients under your care, as many won’t have anyone to be that for them. Mary works on 4 North medical/surgical unit as a staff nurse.  Mary’s advice for prospective nurses is, nursing requires you to push yourself to the extent of your capabilities, but keep pushing, keep caring, keep giving your all.  Never give up.  It will be worth it in the end.  Congratulations to both of you and thank you for your service to Opelousas General Health System and to our community.
