EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice Men’s Basketball continues its hot start to the 2022-23 season as the Bengals enjoyed a wire-to-wire victory over Mississippi Gulf Coast 80-65 on Wednesday at the HPRE Center. The Bengals improved to 4-0 as LSUE has pushed through a grueling four games in six day stretch to begin the campaign.
LSU Eunice would push out to an 11-1 lead in the first five minutes of the game in the wire-to-wire victory. Reginald Stoner scored seven of his 13 points in that span, one of two Bengals to record double digit point efforts.
The offensive surge continued as LSUE would build a 17-point lead, 30-13, with less than eight minutes before the break. Mississippi Gulf Coast would go on a run of its own, closing the gap to five points late. LSUE would go into the locker rooms up 38-30 with Kaden Pierre posting a team-high eight first half points.
The Bengals would come out sizzling to start the second half, building its lead to as large as 22 points. Bryce Roberts was the engine behind the LSUE attack, scoring 10 of his team-high 15 points after the break.
The offensive glass played a huge part in LSUE’s rout, owning a 12-6 edge in that category while producing 13 second chance points. Kiani Saxon was the leading rebounder with five.
In addition to its dominance on the glass, LSUE would, again, show off its balance throughout the night as 13 different players would score at least a point, and no one played more than 22 minutes. The Bengals bench outscored the Mississippi Gulf Coast reserves 52-12.
LSUE returns home to face Centenary College JV on Sunday at 2:00PM from the HPRE Center.
