According to Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz, “On February 26, 2021, St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the 100 block of Carrington Place in the Opelousas area in regards to a report of aggravated assault with a firearm.”
Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the victim, who stated that he was contacted by a family member to pick up poultry from an address located at the 200 block of Carrington Place in Opelousas. Another individual drove the victim and the victim’s two minor children to the address. Upon arrival, the victim noticed that Dylan Mitchell Chiasson was at the location.
While in the yard, one of the animals began to fly and the victim caught it. When he turned with the poultry in his hands, Dylan Chiasson accused the victim of attempting to harm the animal and pointed a firearm at the victim.
An additional individual approached Dylan Chiasson and instructed him to lower the firearm, which he complied. An argument began between the victim and Dylan Chiasson and the victim attempted to leave the location with his two minor children. Dylan Chiasson pointed the firearm at the vehicle and told the victim that he would kill him and his children.
After returning to his residence, the victim saw Dylan Chiasson, a female passenger and a juvenile drive up to his residence. The victim’s juvenile children ran into the residence and Dylan Chiasson pointed the firearm and began shooting at the victim. Dylan Chiasson pointed the firearm in the air and shot once more.
An arrest warrant was issued for Dylan Chiasson and signed on February 26, 2021.
On July 22, 2022, Dylan Mitchell Chiasson was transported to the St. Landry Parish Jail and charged with attempted second degree murder, illegal use of weapons, and three counts of aggravated assault with a firearm.
