Opelousas, La (July 10, 2023) – St. Landry-Evangeline United Way will oversee distribution of federal funds made available through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The Emergency Food and Shelter funds for Phase 40 to St. Landry Parish will be $33,114. The funds are to be used by eligible local service agencies to supplement and expand the capacity of existing emergency food and shelter programs in St. Landry Parish. Funds are not to be used for creating new programs. Under the terms of the grant from the national EFSP board, local agencies selected to receive funds must: 1) be private voluntary non-profits or units of government, 2) be eligible to receive Federal funds, 3) have an accounting system, 4) practice nondiscrimination, 5) have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs, and 6) if they are a private voluntary organization, have a volunteer board. Qualifying agencies in St. Landry Parish are urged to apply.
According to Ginger LeCompte, Executive Director of the St. Landry-Evangeline United Way, “This program has made a substantial contribution to our local shelters and food banks over the years.
