The Rev. Dr King’s Grand Parade will roll through the streets of Opelousas for the 41th time at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 16, 2023.

Staging begins at 11:00a.m, lining up at the South City Park Teen Center. A parade will follow, lead by people from Holy Ghost Catholic Church, rolling down North Market, East on Bloch Street, North on Union Street and disbanding at Holy Ghost Church. Immediately following the parade, a program is scheduled for 2:00p.m..

Dr. Christopher “Chris” William will serve as Grand Parade Marhshall. St. Landry Parish School Superintendent Patrick Jenkins will be the keynote speaker for the program, sharing his thoughts on that day.

Dr. King Service Award recipients from the surrounding church parishes will be recongnized for their significant contributions to their faith c ommunities. Speakers sharing inspirational messages along with choirs, and soloist will be in the offering at the program and the Grand Benediction in the church.

Church, school groups, social and civic organizations, Kings and Queens are encourage to participate in the parade and church program. The event is free to the public.

According to organizer Rebecca Henry, I beleive it is important to reach and teach, especially young people, about the Rev. Dr. King’s philosopy on not only Civil Right but Equal Rights as well.”
