A local legend, William E. Duplechain, AKA ‘Coach Dup’ was honored by Port Barre High School. On Saturday, April 2nd PBHS Baseball held a Military Appreciation Game where local veterans were honored and recognized. A moment of silence was held in Coach Dup’s honor before the game.

Bill proudly served in the United States Army. He was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Bill’s career as an educator and coach began at Delcambre High School until 1984. He returned to teach and coach in his hometown at Port Barre High School for 33 years until his retirement in 2017.

In April of 2022 Coach William E. Duplechain was recognized by the Louisiana High School Athletic Association and inducted into the LHSAA Hall of Fame.

He loved spending time with his family and attending all sporting events with his children and grandchildren, even during his battle with cancer. Bill was beloved by all in his community for his service and for his leadership on and off the field.

A special banner hangs in front of Port Barre High School honoring the former coach. The PBHS Baseball team have added decals to the back of their baseball helmets with his initials. Just before each game the team ‘breaks’ to Coach Dup.
