(Editor’s note: The following is a list of 2022-23 Westminster Christian Academy athletic highlights featured during a ceremony held at the school last week.)
Senior college signees:
Abigail Cunningham: volleyball (UL-Lafayette)
Caroline Lalonde: volleyball (UL-Lafayette)
Ada Horton: volleyball (Louisiana Christian)
Carlie Horton: volleyball (Louisiana Christian)
Cam Randell: football (Louisiana Christian)
Blake Richardson: baseball (Champion Christian College)
Parker Janes: track (Louisiana Tech – walk-on invitation)
WCA 2022-23 sports history
Cross country: The boys’ cross country track team won the parish and regional meets. WCA was also a state runner-up in cross country. Distance runner Owen Melancon was named to the all-state cross country team.
Volleyball: The volleyball team won a district title and finished as a state runner-up. Head volleyball coach Keith Leon was named coach of the year in district, parish, metro and Division V. Leon was also a finalist for the star of stars coaching nomination.
Girls basketball: The girls’ team finished as a state regional playoff participant.
Boys basketball: The boys’ team participated in the first round of the state playoffs.
Tennis: WCA qualified nine players for the state tournament in Monroe. Cooper Manuel was a regional champion. Daniel Chautin was a regional runner-up. Owen-Scott Dupre and Luke Mayer were regional semifinalists in doubles.
Manuel and Gabby Scott were top 16 finishers in state singles competition.
Swim team: Abigail Lewis and Adam Stelly were selected as members of the all-state swim team.
Boys soccer: The Crusaders reached the second round of the playoffs. Gabe Proffitt and Cohen Elliott were chosen to the all state team.
Track and Field: WCA won the Division regional title and finished third at the state meet.
Aalyia Arvie and Bethany Casey were individual state champions. In addition to the individual events, the Crusaders’ girls’ team won the state 4×100-meters relay. Members of the exchange team were Caroline Lalonde, Casey, Carmen Janes and Arvie.
Parker Janes finished third in the individual 100 meters, while the girls 4×200-meters relay was third at the state meet. Girls participating in the 4×200 exchanges were Lalone, Casey, Janes and Arvie.
