Westminster Christian Academy ended the 2022 season Friday night with a 42-7 District 6-1A loss at Catholic High-Pointe Coupee.
The Crusaders completed a second year (2-8, 1-4) under head football coach Travis Blaize. In his two seasons at WCA, the Crusaders are 8-12 overall.
Against CHPC, Westminster finished with 135 yards (120 passing). The Crusaders scored their only touchdown of the game in the third period when Michael Cunningham returned a fumble for a touchdown.
The score by Cunningham enabled Westminster to pull within 21 points of the Hornets, who had established a four-touchdown first half advantage.
WCA freshman quarterback Stephen George completed 12-of-25 passes for 120 yards. George, who finished his freshman season as the quarterback starter, was also intercepted three times by Catholic Pointe Coupee (8-1, 4-1).
Kaden Thomas caught two passes for 40 yards, Joshua Cassimere had five receptions for 33 and Damian Thomas finished with two receptions for 32.
Cunningham ran 12 times for 33 yards, but overall the Crusaders were held for minus rushing yards.
Catholic High finished with 449 total offensive yards. The Hornets rushed for 379, as Adam Beatty ran for 161 on 19 carries and Hayden Elliott rushed for 121 on nine attempts.
The Hornets used the final minute of the first period to set the stage for the 28-point halftime lead.
Beatty moved into the end zone on a one-yard run (1:43) and with no time left on the game clock, Catholic Pointe Coupee scored again, as Connor Achee returned an interception for a touchdown that helped put the Hornets in front 14-0.
