EUNICE HIGH 2022 SOFTBALL

Eunice High plays North DeSoto (Class 4A semifinal) in Sulphur at 4 p.m. Friday.

Eunice through the Playoffs: Eunice (22-6) entered the playoffs as the No. 5 seed and defeated Westgate (bi-district) and Lakeshore (Regional) by combined 28-7 scores. In the quarterfinal round at North Vermilion, Eunice defeated the Patriots 5-4 in eight innings.

What’s Next? Eunice meets top-seeded North DeSoto, the defending 4A champion.

Season recap: The Bobcats are coached by Trennon Trosclair and Andre Vige. Trosclair is a football assistant and Vige is the head football coach.

“Trennon is going to always do things right and he has taken that approach to softball. We’re two softball coaches, so we coach the team that way. Our girls are hard workers, a bunch of grinders, who chose to come to the field every summer morning at 6 a.m. in order to improve.” – Andre Vige

In the playoffs: “I thought we would be good and we have gotten better. I think in the playoffs we have momentum after the come-from-behind win at North Vermilion. We were down to our last strike in the seventh and got it to extra innings and won. The big thing is we are hitting the ball real well.” – Andre Vige

Looking at key players with Vige’s insights:

(Catcher) Gabby Mitchell, Jr. “She’s batting way over .500 right now with 16 homers. Like the rest of the players, Gabby works hard.”

(Pitcher) Caroline Vienne, Sr. “Caroline is always sharp. She gets good spin, good control. Her earned run average is something like 2.70. She took over the pitching last year.”

(Third Base) Alexis Ortego, So. “Alexis is our cleanup hitter. That says it all.”

(Second Base) Sophie Vidrine, Sr. “She has a great on base percentage.”

(Outfield) Chloe Moreau and Alyssa Tate. “They are two of our best hitters.”
