PAYNE EARNS PAIR OF REGION 23 HONORS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – MARCH 30, 2022

EUNICE, La. – Isaiah Payne continued his award haul for LSU Eunice Men’s Basketball with a pair of Region 23 accolades, it was announced earlier this month by the NJCAA.  Payne was named to both the Region 23 All-Tournament and the All-Region 23 squad.

The Ville Platte native was the lone LCCAC representative on either squad.

Payne led LSU Eunice with 17.8 points per game, the fourth best average in Region 23.  The combo guard added 4.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game.  He would have ten games of 20 points or more.

To earn All-Tournament team honors, Payne was a star from the Bengals in their Region 23 Semifinal run.  After scoring 20 points in an opening round 83-67 win against Hinds, Payne dropped a season-high 31 points on the road to take down MACCC Tournament Champs East Mississippi, 76-73. He would score seven of LSUE’s 10 points in overtime including two critical free throws to seal the victory.

This continues a big award haul for Payne, being named the LCCAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Year and first-team All-LCCAC selection.

LSU Eunice finished the season 19-7, capturing a third straight Louisiana Community College Athletic Conference (LCCAC) regular season championship.  The Bengals went undefeated through conference play and advanced to the Region 23 Semifinals for the first time in program history.
