NATIONAL RECOVERY MONTH **************************************************************************** Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz is pleased to report, “Our Corrections Operations are taking the opportunity during National Recovery Month to promote and provide much-needed services to our inmates.  Also, The Pentecostals of Lafayette have baptized our first group of women.” “Studies of U.S. jail populations suggest that roughly one million arrestees per year may be at risk for untreated alcohol or opiate withdrawal.  One study found that approximately 1.2 million out of 11 million people arrested were alcohol-dependent.” “Despite these numbers, only 28% of jail administrators reported that their jails provided alcohol or drug detoxification services.  One study concluded that 63% of all arrestees were being held in facilities that reported never detoxifying their inmates.  The study also suggests that as many as 756,000 detainees were at risk for untreated alcohol withdrawal within the first 48 hours of being arrested.” Sheriff Guidroz concludes, “Many think that…

Horses & Harmony Annual Banquet

Despite a last minute change of venue. the Horses &. Harmony Annual Banquet was held Wednesday night at the Delta Grand. The St. Landry Chamber of Commerce event was hosted by St. Landry Parish Government and presented by St. Landry Bank and Trust Company, It was a night of good food, supplied by Benny's Supermarket, and good music all to support the horse industry and the love of music in St. Landry Parish, especially Zydeco, which was provided by Jeffery Broussard and the Creole Cowboys. One highlight of the night was a proclamation presented by State Representative Rhonda Butler and Danny Lyons proclaiming the city of Opelousas as an Equine Hall of Fame City.

Non-Profits Assist Local Children With Fund Raisers BOBBY ARDOIN St. Landry Now.com Two local non-profit agencies – The Opelousas Cerebral Palsy Clinic and CASA – are continuing to serve the needs of St. Landry Parish children through annual funding obtained primarily through donations and fund raisers. The Rotary Club is scheduled again to provide substantial donations for both CASA and the Cerebral Palsy Clinic with procreeds from an annual locally-televised auction scheduled this year to be broadcast live Oct. 7 beginning at 6 p.m. Agency representatives Madeline Rosette of CASA and Lynn Moreau of the Cerebral Palsy Clinic recently explained the impact of their organizations during separate Rotary Club appearances. “When you have (the Rotary auction) you are helping us help children,” Rosette explained to Rotarians during her presentations. Water Leak Repairs Lane Closure

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASECity of Opelousas – Emergency Water Leak Repair and Lane Closure Opelousas, LA – The City of Opelousas is conducting an emergency water leak repair at the intersection of Vine Street (Hwy 190 East) and Court Street. During this time, the inside left lane on Vine Street at Market Street will remain closed for several hours until all repairs are completed. Signage and an arrow board have been placed along the route to guide drivers and alert them of the closure. The City asks all motorists to use caution and remain mindful of work crews in and around the repair site. Additionally, some customers in the area may experience water service interruptions, including low or no water pressure, while work is being performed. We thank residents, businesses, and drivers for their patience and cooperation as crews work to restore service as quickly and safely as possible. City Administration

The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office and Lt. Damien Morgan come toCrime Stoppers and ask your help with a theft of lawn equipment.On June 20, 2024, Deputies responded to a report of a vehicle theftand theft of lawn equipment at 367 Roxsan Road in Sunset. A 2003Chevrolet 2500 Silverado pickup and a 2024 red Buck Dandy utilitytrailer with numerous pieces of lawn equipment were stolen from theresidence. Three commercial lawn mowers, three (3) lawn trimmers,three (3) leaf blowers, a string trimmer and edger were taken fromthe trailer and the cargo area of the pickup, as well. The pickup wasrecovered, abandoned in a yard on Olivier Road in Opelousas on June24 th . The trailer, equipment and tools from the truck, along with thelicense plate for the truck ( Z652563 ) are still missing.Anyone with information on this, or any other crime can call St.Landry Crime Stoppers at 948-TIPS.
