If one was looking for fun, food and music this week-end they would have found it all at the Ag-Arena located on the grounds of the Louisiana Yambilee. This was the location for the fifth annual St. Landry Parish Barbecue Festival sponsored by the St. Landry Parish Government.

Things got underway Friday evening with games for the kids and inside the Ag-Arena a slate of musical entertainment provided by Rusty Metoyer. Also on the schedule was The Hot Line Band playing a variety of top 40 music. Closing out the night was Chee Weez a rock tribute band from New Orleans and the well known Titanik. Lets not forget the array of babecue suppliedby local vendors.

Saturday brought the summer heat but that didn’t stop the crowds from passing a good time. There was barbecue to sample, chicken, pork, beef and just about everything that could fit on a pit. Another way to beat the heat was to volunteer the dunking booth, one of the most popular attractions at the festival. Nightfall brought a cooler ag-arena thanks to the large circular fans that was recently installed by the St. Landry Parish Government. A continuous flow of water onto the roof also help lower the temperature inside. Performing bands including DJ Troy-D and DT Zydeco. Closing out the night were The Cartoons, Wayne Toups and Keith Frdank.

The main event was Sunday. Barbecue cook-off where teams vied for the best dish in several categories. After judging trophies were awarded for the best dish in each category along with the people’s choice trophy for the best dish in the competition. Closing out the festival was music provided by Foret Tradition, Southern Soul and Roi “Chip” Anthony.
