Women With Heart Honors Two

Veteran educators June Inhern and Nina David were recognized Monday as annual Women With Heart Recipients during a Monday ceremony and awards banquet held at the Opelousas Civic Center
Inhern retired last year from the St. Landry Parish School District, while David held multiple teaching and administrative positions in Evangeline Parish.
The two women and those honored by the organization since 2013, were chosen for their leadership skills, community impact and visionary participation both during their education careers and for volunteer efforts in St. Landry and Evangeline.
Inhern, an Evangeline Parish native who participated during the event in a panel discussion involving early childhood and special education, was employed as an educator for over 50 years.
David,who was employed in Evangeline as a classroom teacher, librarian, curriculum director and instructional specialist, was also instrumental in starting the Evangeline Parish French immersion program.
The panel discussion which preceded the awards event included Inhern, Kelli Lafleur and Katrina Ardoin. The panel moderator was Bambi Polotzola.
Intern, who retired as the early learning program director in 2024, said that children at an early age should be exposed to social skills, arts and music as part of their educational development.
The panelists also told their in attendance that state educational leaders who created an app that assists teachers and parents with resources to help with reading skills.
