Meet and create with local art instructor Ke’Shawn Collins. This presentation is part of the
creative workshops for the Where We Live: Opelousas Neighborhoods exhibit.
Participants will create collages inspired by and containing Louisiana photos and maps as well
as other mixed media. There will be an active discussion about culture and community
throughout different areas of the state as a way of inspiring participants as they produce their
collage. Refreshments will be served.
ABOUT KE’SHAWN COLLINS
Ke’Shawn Collins started creating beautiful art pieces at an early age. He was inspired by
watching videos of Bob Ross and painting and drawing with his brother. Collins is a graduate of
the Magnet Academy of Cultural Arts in Opelousas. He is also a teaching artist for, “Artists in
the Schools,” a program that is run by the Acadiana Center for the Arts. At 24 years old, he
declares, “I’m living my childhood dream teaching kids art all over Louisiana like Bob Ross.”
Supported by a grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development,
Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, in cooperation with the Louisiana State Arts
Council, as administered by the Acadiana Center for the Arts. Funding has also been provided by
the National Endowment of the Arts.
