Fatal Traffic Crash Under Investigation

Opelousas, LA – On Satuarday, March 21, 2026, at approximately 5:32 p.m., the Opelousas Police Department responded to a reported traffic crash involving a passenger vehicle and a bicyclist at the intersection of Bullard Street and Pujo Street.

Upon arrival, officers discovered that a bicyclist had been struck by a passenger vehicle. The bicyclist was transported to a local hospital for treatment but later succumbed to his injuries.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the bicyclist was traveling eastbound on Pujo Street and entered the southbound lane of travel on Bullard Street, at which time he was struck by the passenger vehicle.

As part of the investigation, the driver of the vehicle was tested for impairment and was found not to be impaired at the time of the crash. Additionally, based on the evidence gathered, the driver has been determined not to be at fault.

Toxicology results for the bicyclist are currently pending.

This crash remains under investigation. No further information will be released at this time.
