Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz reports, “On May 2, 2026, a Narcotics Detective with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s
Office was conducting a traffic stop in the area of Country Ridge Road, Opelousas. Another vehicle in the
nearby parking lot attracted the Detective’s attention. After completing the traffic stop, the Detective observed
the second vehicle leave the area and observed a traffic violation. Upon stopping the vehicle, the Detective
noted a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. During the investigation, the driver surrendered a
quantity of marijuana. A probable cause search resulted in the seizure of 34.28 grams of suspected marijuana,
drug paraphernalia, $ 6,950.00 in US currency and a Glock Model 27 .40 caliber pistol with an illegal “switch”.
The “switch” is an illegal device that renders the pistol a fully-automatic submachine gun. The alert action by
this narcotics detective resulted in another alleged drug dealer and the very lethal submachine gun taken off the
streets.”
