The Magnet Academy Of The Cultural Arts was honored twice – by the St. Landry School District and City of Opelousas – on Thursday night as a high-achieving nationally recognized school.
MACA principal Natalie Angelle was also given the key to the city by Mayor Julius Alsandor, who also proclaimed the school as MACA School Day.
National school organizations have recognized the continued high student academic performances and educational growth at MACA, said curriculum director Angela Cassimere.
Angelle, who began working at MACA as a teacher in 2008, told school board members prior to the start of a regular meeting, that the school has been rated as an “A” performing school for 10 consecutive years.
In October Cassiere said that the Louisiana Department of Education recognized MACA also as a distinguished school.
Angelle told board members that she plans to leave MACA at the end of the current school year.
