KAYVYON L. SAPP CONVICTED – 3 COUNTS OF ARMED

ROBBERY WITH A FIREARM

Kayvyon L. Sapp, 36 of Lafayette, was convicted late Tuesday of three counts of
Armed Robbery with a Firearm after just two days of trial. On March 11, 2021, shortly
after 7:00, Sapp robbed 3 people at gunpoint at Murphy USA in Opelousas. Officers
responded quickly, made contact with the victims, and identified the armed suspect using
surveillance video. Sapp was apprehended within 12 hours. Through the course of their
investigation, officers collected the clothing he wore as well as the firearm he used during
the armed robberies. Assistant District Attorney Laura Signorelli called each victim to the
stand in addition to an eyewitness who all identified Sapp as the robber. The jury of twelve
returned a swift, unanimous verdict with under two hours of deliberation.
The sentencing range for Armed Robbery with a Firearm carries a minimum of 15
years hard labor up to 99 years at hard labor without benefit of parole, probation or
suspension of sentence. A sentencing hearing is set for September 3, 2026.
