Ribbon Cutting Rescheduled for City’s First
Historic District
A Celebration of Historic Preservation
The City of Rayne announces that the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony celebrating the City’s first Historic District
will take place on Friday, July 10, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Depot Square in the heart of downtown Rayne (101
Texas Ave. Rayne, La 70578).
Mayor Chuck Robichaux, the Rayne City Council, and the Rayne Historic Preservation Commission proudly
invites the public to join them for this historic occasion as the City celebrates a milestone more than 142 years
in the making.
With the assistance of the Louisiana National Register and the State Historic Preservation Office, the City of
Rayne can now officially recognize its own Historic District within the city limits.
This landmark achievement represents years of dedicated research, documentation, and collaboration by the
Rayne Historic Preservation Commission and the Rayne Historical District Association. Together, volunteers
have surveyed more than 200 homes and businesses that are over 50 years old, documenting the architectural
and historical significance that defines Rayne’s unique heritage.
As a result of this designation, homeowners and business owners within the Historic District are now eligible to
apply for National Register plaques and garden signs through the Rayne Historic Preservation Commission for a
reasonable fee.
The Historic District designation also signifies that these neighborhoods have been recognized by the National
Park Service, the State of Louisiana, and the City of Rayne for their architectural and historical significance.
These treasured historic resources contribute to the city’s character, strengthen its economy, and enhance the
quality of life for residents and visitors alike.
