Opelousas General Health System Launches
19 th Annual Paint the Town Pink Campaign
Opelousas, LA, September 23, 2026 – Opelousas General Health System will Paint the Town Pink (PTTP) in
October during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. OGHS invites the community to join efforts to educate and
bring about awareness of breast cancer.
The kick-off event is scheduled for Friday, September 25, from 9AM – 3PM at OGHS Main Campus, front
entrance. Paint the Town Pink T-shirts will be on sale. Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center will have their
Prevention On the Go (POGO) bus on-site providing breast cancer education, refreshments will be served and
Lah D’s Food Truck will be available for food purchases.
Louisiana has the third highest breast cancer death rate in the country. In this state, 1 in 8 women will be
diagnosed with breast cancer, however, with regular screening, breast cancer can often be found and stopped
early. This is one of the many reasons OGHS promotes breast cancer awareness.
PTTP activities in mid-October includes a bra, business, and school decorating contest. On October 30, OGHS
will host the Pink Luncheon and Style Show where breast cancer survivors will model attire from JC Penny.
Following the luncheon, is a VIP After Party sponsored by OGH Imaging.
Paint the Town Pink is an initiative of Opelousas General Health System to promote the importance of women’s
health, education, and availability of breast screening services. 2026 marks the 19-year anniversary of this
educational and fundraising initiative that provides education and free year-long mammograms and
mammography-related services to women who are underinsured and/or cannot afford the services.
