According to St. Landry District Attorney Chad Pitre, a Grand Jury reviewed two separate murder cases yesterday and returned indictments on both matters.
The Grand Jury returned a true bill indicting Niesha S. Charles, 31, with the 2nd degree murder of Jason Edwards. She was also indicted with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. This case involved law enforcement being called to a residence at 516 Halphen St. in Opelousas on August 10, 2022 where Jason Edwards had succumbed to a single gun-shot wound to the chest. Niesha Charles is set for arraignment on November 17, 2022.
The Grand Jury also indicted 17 year-old Jakyri Mykel Altrevan Paddio for 1st Degree Murder in connection with a Sunset area homicide that occurred on August 5, 2022. The fatal shooting occurred during an armed robbery that resulted in the death of Jeremy Chaisson. The defendant, Paddio is set for arraignment on October 27, 2022.
