Press Release: July 15, 2022
On Thursday, July 14, 2022, the St. Landry Parish Narcotics Unit received an anonymous tip regarding two unidentified black males who would be delivering a pound of marijuana to a location within St. Landry Parish. Additionally, it was believed that the male subjects would possibly rob the intended buyer.
Narcotics detectives conducted an undercover operation and established surveillance where the delivery was scheduled to occur. Detectives then observed a white, sports utility vehicle arrive at the specified location. Upon making contact with the occupants of the vehicle, detectives were able to identify five subjects: Jamontra Batiste, Nakaven Chavalier, Dintrell Sam, Devin Bernard and Bryson Maturin.
During a probable cause search of the vehicle, detectives located a black ski mask and two and one-half (2 ½) pounds of marijuana. Also located inside the vehicle were three (3) semi automatic handguns and one (1) AR-15 rifle, all of which were easily accessible to all occupants. Two (2) of the weapons found were reported stolen.
Jamontra Batiste is out on bond for a previous arrest in Iberia Parish for armed robbery and has a pending court date of Friday, July 15, 2022.
Nakaven Chavalier was convicted in St. Mary Parish for carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number. He is currently on probation with Louisiana State Probation and Parole – New Iberia District.
