(Opelousas, LA) – Opelousas Tourism is excited to have been one of the award recipients of the 2023 Trash Receptacle Grant from Keep Louisiana Beautiful.  The grant provided six new industrial trash receptacles for the City of Opelousas which were primarily placed around Le Vieux Village/ Farmers Market area and downtown near City Hall.   Through the Trash Receptacle Grant program, KLB will distribute 879 receptacles to 98 organizations in 40 Louisiana parishes, a total value of $675-thousand dollars.

Funded by the Office of the Lieutenant Governor in partnership with Keep Louisiana Beautiful, the purpose of the grant is to reduce litter in public spaces by providing high-quality trash receptacles in communities throughout Louisiana. Data collected by KLB over the last several years shows a reduction of litter by 56% in areas where trash receptacles are properly installed and maintained.

As part of the requirements of the grant, Opelousas Tourism will perform a post installation litter scan and compare the data collected to preliminary scan results.
