Four Opelousas-area students received educational financial assistance last Saturday as they were presented with $1,000 scholarships during a presentation event held at the Indian Hills Country Club.
The 15th annual I-49 Scholarships ceremony sponsored by Opelousas Alderman-At-Large Marvin Richard, included remarks by several state, parish and local elected officials.
Recipients included Jaleel Jackson, Northwest High; David DeWayne Baloney, Opelousas High; Lilliana Semien, J.S. Clark Leadership Academy and Quandre Sam, Magnet Academy of The Cultural Arts.
Richard told those in attendance that, “It does my heart good to be able to have people who support me and to make sure these kids see the love and support that they have in their community.”
